Obituary of Joan C. Stinson

Joan C. (Sarama) Stinson, 82, of East Norriton, passed away on October 20, 2016 in the company of her immediate family. She was born in Philadelphia on September 22, 1934 to the late John and Clara (Grabus) Sarama. Joan lived in East Norriton since 1967, formerly of the Manayunk section of Philadelphia where she was born and raised. She was a member of St. Titus RC Church of East Norriton. Joan was a 1952 graduate of Roxborough High School. Joan and her husband volunteered their time to numerous community organizations. Some of which were East Norriton Little League, Glen Onoko Estates, and the Ancient Order of Hibernians. Although Joan never held any office in these organizations she was a resource beyond value to her husband Matt, as he headed all of these groups. She was the “Woman behind the man”. Joan had a very strong work ethic and went just shy of 30 years without missing a day of work despite her early life battle with rheumatoid arthritis and the later occurrence of breast cancer. She enjoyed curling up next to the fireplace with a good book, especially novels. A simple and humble person, Joan always put the welfare of others before that of herself. She will be dearly missed. Survivors include her beloved husband of 62 years, Matthew Stinson, Jr. of East Norriton; two sons, Frank ( & Fran) Stinson of Limerick, and Terry Stinson of East Norriton; two brothers, Jack Sarama of Plymouth Meeting and Ed Sarama of Florida; five grandchildren, Matthew, Lauren, TJ, Christian, and Daniel; two great grandchildren, Ava and Katie, as well as a house full of dogs. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Charles Sarama. Friends and family may pay their respects on Thursday, October 27th at Saint Titus RC Church, 3006 Keenwood Road, East Norriton, PA 19403. Joan’s viewing will be held at the church from 10:00 – 10:45 AM followed by her Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 AM. Honoring her wishes, Joan’s Interment will be private. Memorial contributions may be made in her memory to the American Cancer Society, 480 Norristown Rd, #150, Blue Bell, PA 19422
