Obituary of Margaret A. Bailey

Margaret A.”Peg” (Gilbert) Bailey died on April 22, 2017 at Einstein Montgomery Medical Center after a lengthy illness. She was born in Norristown, PA. May 31, 1920 a daughter of the late Augustus and Ella (Barnes) Gilbert. She was 96 years of age. She was the wife of the late J. Paul Bailey who died in 2001. They had been married 55 years. She was a graduate of the former Norristown High School, Class of 1938, and the former Norristown Business College. She then worked for James Lees of Bridgeport as well as a law office in Norristown. After marriage to her late husband, she assisted in the operation of the family funeral business. She served as a volunteer at Freedom Valley Girl Scout Council, and was a former member of the Norristown Salvation Army Auxiliary. She was a member and past president of the Colony Club of West Norriton. She also was a Board member at the Montgomery County Emergency Services Hospital. She was a member of the Reformed Church of the Ascension U.C.C. in Jeffersonville. She was a former member of the West Norriton Township Board of Commissioners where she served for eight years, six of them as president of the Board. She also served on the West Norriton Township Civil Service Commission, and was honored for her service, by having the Meeting Room at the West Norriton Township Municipal Complex being dedicated in her honor. She was also honored to be named as the Grand Marshall of the West Norriton Township Centennial Parade. Before macular degeneration deteriorated her eyesight, she never purchased any kind of greeting card, instead hand making get well, birthday and holiday greeting cards for family, friends and acquaintances. She also enjoyed traveling, especially bus trips with Perkiomen Tours. In addition to her husband and parents, she was predeceased by her daughter Janet, her brother James Gilbert, and her sisters Mary Royle and Muriel Miller. She is survived by two children Kathryn L. Gorman and Jay P. Bailey and wife, Nadine. Grandchildren: Heather Waddell (Jason), Scott Gorman (Dawn), Laura Bailey, Christopher Gorman, Jessica Holbrook (Andrew), and Jayna Stringer (Kenneth). Great Grandchildren: Sean, Caetlyn, Harper and Graeme, and one step great granddaughter, Tatiana. Funeral services for relatives and friends will take place at 11:00 AM Wednesday, April 26, 2017 from the Reformed Church of the Ascension U.C.C., 1700 W. Main Street, Jeffersonville, PA 19403. Rev. Dwayne Mosier, pastor of the church will officiate. The family will receive friends at the church from 10:00 AM until Service time. Interment will take place at Riverside Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to: the Reformed Church of the Ascension U.C.C.
