Obituary of George Richard Finnin

George Richard Finnin, age 85, of Harleysville, PA, passed away peacefully in February 2025 with his wife, Eileen, by his side.

Born in Bellefonte, PA in 1939, the son of the late George W. and Mabel Finnin, George spent most of his childhood in various parts of Central Pennsylvania before he met his future wife Eileen Motzenbecker.   Eventually, they settled in Skippack, PA, where they built their lifelong home and raised three children.

A graduate of Penn State University, George was never really a huge sports fan, except for his beloved Nittany Lions football. While at Penn State, George studied electrical engineering and eventually embarked on a rewarding career with the Unisys Corporation. He worked there for 35 years and retired in 2001.

Previous to Unisys, while working for a small company in New Jersey, George met Eileen Motzenbecker.  New to the town, he attended a young adult group hosted by a local Catholic church.  He was immediately taken by Eileen’s attractive yellow jacket and asked her to be his bridge partner. Their bridge partnership bloomed into a love relationship lasting over 58 years.

With his wife by his side, George became a long term resident of Skippack. In 1968, he became a parishioner at St. Eleanor’s Catholic Church where he was involved in various activities including Marriage Encounter, Natural Family Planning and Christ Life Ministries. He was also a member of Knights of Columbus.  Seven years ago they moved to the Peter Becker Community. The woodwork shop and computer club remained enjoyable activities until his recent passing.  He also assisted in setting up the Parkinson’s support group in the Peter Becker Community.

Survivors include his wife, Eileen Finnin; three children and spouses, Joseph Finnin and Ling Chang, Lisa Ciccoli and Dennis Ciccoli, and Barbara Finnin and William O’Neal; and three grandchildren, Owen Ciccoli, Julian O’Neal, and Magdalena O’Neal.

George was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Harry Finnin.

George’s Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, February 22, 2025 at 11:00 AM at St. Eleanor's RC Church, 647 Locust Street, Collegeville, PA 19426. Relatives and friends are invited to the viewing on February 22, 2025 from 10:00 AM to 10:45 AM at the Church.

Interment will take place privately for the family at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in his memory to: The Missionaries of Charity at 630 Dekalb Street, Norristown, PA 19401 (Attn: Mother Superior).
