Harry Bechtel, III

Obituary of Harry L. Bechtel, III

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Harry Landis Bechtel III, who left us on March 12, 2025, after a long and courageous battle with cancer. Harry was born on June 23, 1944, and lived a life filled with love, dedication, and strength.

Harry worked diligently throughout his life, spending the majority of his career with PECO in the real estate department.  After retirement, you could find Harry sitting on the deck of his “summer place” in Mays Landing, NJ.

Harry’s legacy is defined by the love he shared with his family and his perseverance through the challenges he faced. He is survived by his wife Helen (Weigelt) Bechtel and daughters Patricia (Bechtel) Fanelli, Jennifer (Bechtel) Parmelee, and Anne Bechtel.  He was also preceded in death by his daughter Denise Bechtel.  Harry was a loving grandfather to Caitlin and Michael Fanelli and Emma and Andrew Parmelee, as well as father-in-law to Steven Fanelli and Brian Parmelee.  He is also survived by his brothers Hank Wacker, Wayne Wacker, Christopher Bechtel, Donald Bechtel, sister Karen Davis, as well as many nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his brother Charles Wacker.  It would be remiss of us to forget to mention he was a wonderful grandfather to Molly and George.

In his final years, Harry showed an incredible strength of spirit, never losing his sense of humor. He faced his illness with grace and dignity, a reflection of the character he exhibited throughout his life.

A private service will be held for the family.

Harry will be dearly missed by all who knew him, but his legacy of love, resilience, and humor will live on in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know him.
