Obituary of Sandra P. Lavery
Sandra P. Lavery, formerly of Easton, PA, and Myrtle Beach, SC, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family in her Collegeville, PA, home on Sunday, March 16, 2025.
She was born in Jamaica, Queens, on July 22, 1937, the daughter of the late Andrew & Harriet (Donovan) Landon.
Sandy began her professional career in Manhattan as Executive Secretary to the President of Bankers Trust later followed by nearly 2 decades as a purchasing clerk at Easton Hospital before retiring to the beautiful “Golden Mile” in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.
She loved to travel, taking many “girls’ trips” before they were in vogue. She recounted loads of adventures, seeing the world before settling down with the love of her life, Stephen, to build a life together. They raised their family and became surrogate family to many others opening their home to friends, relatives, and animals. Truly leading a life of kindness and generosity, she embodied her strong faith through service to others quietly helping anyone in need over the years.
She had a sharp wit and was always up for fun, especially if it included ice cream and a cup of coffee. She loved spending time with loved ones and friends, no one more than her incredible grandchildren. The beach was her absolute happy place where she spent many a day reading a book by the ocean, happy as a clam with her face to the sun and a Diet Coke in hand.
She remained a New Yorker at heart, enjoying many trips back to the city over the years and impressing her children with her expert ability to navigate Manhattan, hail cabs, and shop vendors like a pro! More recently she enjoyed time out with her friends going to weekly lunches, doing puzzles, and playing games. She will be deeply missed by many.
She is survived by her son, Mark (Carol Amie) Lavery of Leesburg, VA; daughter, Christine (Judson) Hambleton of Collegeville, PA; three incredible grandchildren Colin, Erin, and Tara; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, grand-nieces, and grand-nephews, and cousins.
Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by sisters Judith & Nanette and now joins her loving husband of 57 years, Steve. He never did like to be without her.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, March 24th at 11:30 AM at St. Eleanor's RC Church, 647 Locust Street, Collegeville, PA 19426. Relatives and friends are invited to the visitation on Monday morning from 10:30 AM to 11:15 AM at the Church.
Interment will take place on Tuesday, March 25th at 9:30 AM at Washington Crossing National Cemetery, 830 Highland Road, Newtown, PA 18940.
In lieu of flowers, Sandy’s family encourages performing an act of kindness in Sandy's memory.
