Obituary of Robert Harris Sproat

Robert Harris Sproat, age 86, passed away on Monday, April 28, 2025.

He was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on November 18, 1938, the son of the late Harris Elrick Sproat and the late Janet E. (McClenaghen) Sproat.

He was the husband of the late Joan Patricia (Kirrane) Sproat, who died in 2016.

He graduated from Springfield High School, Class of 1956.  He served as a Specialist Fourth Class of Pennsylvania Army National Guard from 1957 to 1964.  He earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering from Temple University. He was a lifetime member of the ASHRE Society since 1959.

Robert worked at W. Kramer Associates for over 45 years as Vice President.  He built up the company’s business to be one of the largest Mechanical Contractor firms in the tri- state area.  He then headed up a very successful school market in the Poconos and the surrounding areas up-state.

Since 1969, he has been a very active member in the State Society of the Cincinnati of Pennsylvania which is one of the oldest patriotic societies in the country.  He was recently honored for his 55 years of valued companionship and faithful service to the Society.  He served as President from 1996 to 1999 and was the fourth generation of Sproats to serve in that capacity.  There has been a direct line of Sproats in the organization since it was founded 242 years ago.  His oldest son, Gregory John, is presently the President of the Society, making him the 5th generation.  Gregory John’s son will make the 6th generation of Sproats in the Society.

He also served the Society as Entertainment Chairman for many years.  In addition, he was very proud to be the Chairman of the Rededication Celebration of the Washington Monument.  The Washington Monument is a gift from the State Society of Pennsylvania which was originally built in 1897 and is currently located at Eakins Oval on the Benjamin Franklin Parkway in Philadelphia.

He was very social and loved spending time with family and friends.  He always kept up-to-date with all the current events and read up to three papers daily.  He loved to travel and bragged about all the great and different places he had the chance to visit and see.

He is survived by two sons, Gregory John Sproat and Kenneth Harris Sproat; and two daughters, Cathy Lynn Seedes and Anne Marie Budney.   He is also survived by six grandchildren, Gregory Matthew Sproat, Daniel Michael Sproat, Kristina Lynn Seedes, Emma Elizabeth Seedes, Conor Michael Seedes and Julia Anne Budney.

His Funeral Service will be held on Friday, May 2, 2025 at 10:00 AM from the Moore, Snear & Ruggiero Funeral Home, 19 East Germantown Pike, East Norriton, PA 19401.   Relatives and friends are invited to the visitation on Friday morning from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM at the Funeral Home.

Interment will take place in Rosedale Memorial Park, Bensalem, PA.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Robert’s name to: Donations in the Memory of Robert H. Sproat The Society of the Cincinnati, 2118 Massachusetts Ave NW, Washington D.C. 20008.
