Obituary of Fannie Rebecca Merrick

Fannie Rebecca Merrick  

 

Fannie Rebecca (Johnson) Merrick, was born in West Conshohocken, PA, on April 1, 1946, to the late Idell and the late Fannie Beatrice (Guinyard) Johnson, Sr.  She passed away Sunday, May 18, 2025. 

 

Rebecca grew up in Conshohocken, and has lived in West Chester, Coatesville, Washington, DC, and  Maryland.  She graduated from Conshohocken High School, where she played on the hockey team and also played the violin.  She was a graduate of Strayer College of Washington, DC.  Rebecca received many academic awards and was listed in the Who’s Who book for her many accomplishments.

 

As a youth, Rebecca attended St. John A.M.E. Church in Conshohocken, where she sang on the Rosebud Choir and served on the Usher Board.  While living in Washington, she fellowshipped at various churches.  When she moved to the West Chester/ Coatesville area, she joined and fellowshipped at South Coatesville Life Center.

 

Rebecca was previously married to the late Steven Merrick,  To this union, they had one child, the late Steven Troy Merrick.

 

She worked as a Senior Programmer Analyst with  Library of Commerce and also worked in the insurance business.

 

Rebecca is survived by four brothers:  Otis Guinyard of Royersford, PA, Rev. Walter (LaFrance) Johnson of Conshohocken, Rev. William (Lisa) Johnson of Coatesville, PA, Joseph (Sharon) Johnson of Fayetteville, NC; four sisters:  Barbara (Rufus) Kee of Garysburg, NC, Rev. Bertha Johnson of Conshohocken, Mary Johnson of Anderson, SC, Millie (Derek) Pearson of Houston, TX; one daughter-in-law:  Denise Merrick of Anderson, SC; one granddaughter: Destiny Merrick of Anderson, SC.  She is also survived by a host of nieces and nephews, relatives and friends.

 

Along with her parents she was preceded in death by her son, Steven Troy Merrick; three brothers: George "Frankie" Johnson, Blanch "BJ" Johnson, and Idell "Stroke" Johnson, Jr., a niece: Dara Johnson, two  nephews: Scott Johnson and Jason Johnson, and two sisters-in-law:  Kim Johnson and Cynthia Guinyard.

 

Her Memorial Service will be held Saturday, May 31, 2025 at 11:00 AM from St. John AME Church, 100 East 8th Avenue and Harry Street, Conshohocken, PA.

 

Friends may call on Saturday, May 31, 2025 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at the church.

 

Interment will be at a later date in George Washington Memorial Park, Plymouth Meeting, Pa.
