Obituary of John Templeton Kennedy
John "Jack" Templeton Kennedy
John “Jack” Templeton Kennedy, 85, of Collegeville, Pennsylvania, passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, October 11, 2025, surrounded by his loving family.
Born in Norristown, Pennsylvania, on July 20, 1940, Jack was the son of the late Richard D. and Jean (Templeton) Kennedy. He was lovingly raised by his aunt and uncle, William and Mildred Kennedy, who cared for him throughout his life.
Jack met the love of his life, Janice Elaine McNatt, at age 16, and the two were married on May 26, 1962.
Following high school, Jack proudly served in the United States Army as a military policeman, where he distinguished himself through honorable service to his country. After his military service, he began his career at Philadelphia Electric Company in 1962, first working as a lineman before joining the company’s nuclear department as a crane operator. He retired in 2000 but continued to work with them until the remarkable age of 80.
Jack’s strong work ethic was matched by his zest for life. In his younger years, he was an accomplished bowler and proudly coached little league. Some of Jack’s happiest moments were spent on the golf course, where he not only perfected his swing but also taught his grandchildren the game he loved. Even in retirement, he remained close to the sport, working at Skippack Golf Course. He took pride in maintaining his lawn, keeping it immaculate year-round. For over 20 years, Jack was an active member of New Ridge Fellowship Church. A lifelong fan of the Philadelphia Eagles and Phillies, he rarely missed a game. Above all, Jack will be remembered for his remarkable sense of humor, quick wit, and warm laughter – qualities that could brighten any room and leave a lasting impression on all who had the pleasure of knowing him.
Jack is survived by his beloved wife, Janice Kennedy; his son, Timothy Kennedy; two daughters, Terri (Late Pat) O’Dowd and Susan Kennedy; five grandchildren, Brandon Kennedy, Jacquelyn O'Dowd, Olivia Kennedy-Sharayko, Tyler Sharayko, and Matthew Sharayko; and two great-grandchildren, Aurora O’Dowd and Bentley Kennedy. He is also survived by his half-brothers, Lew Hertzog and Robert Hertzog.
In addition to his parents, Jack was preceded in death by his infant daughter, Deborah Kennedy; his sister, Bonnie Kennedy; and his half-brother, Dennis Kennedy.
Jack will be remembered for his unwavering love of family, especially being a “Bebop” to his grandchildren, his humor and hard work, and the joy he brought to those around him. His presence will be deeply missed but fondly remembered by all who knew him.
Family and friends are invited to a memorial service honoring Jack’s life on Saturday, October 25, 2025, at New Ridge Fellowship, 2211 Swamp Pike, Gilbertsville, PA. Visitation will be held at the church from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM, followed by the service.
In memory of Jack, please consider donating to his church, New Ridge Fellowship, or the Lymphoma Research Foundation.
