John E. Gretchen, 92, of Freeland Pa., passed away on Wednesday, November 16, 2016 in East Norriton, Pa.

A son of the late John & Mary (Novak) Gretchen, he was born in Upper Lehigh, PA. on .August 2,. 1924

He was the loving husband of the late Elaine (Gallagher) Gretchen

He was a retired Sea Captain of the US Merchant Marines

He was a veteran of the Air force, serving in WWII and Korea

A lifelong resident of Freeland, he was a member of St. Ann’s Catholic Church. -

Survivors include his son Thomas(Susan) Gretchen of Plymouth Meeting PA; a daughter

Patrice Wirth of Freeland, P; four Grandchildren and six Great Grandchildren He was predeceased by a son John Gretchen and a Grandchild

A funeral mass for John will be held on Friday November 18, 2016 at 10:00 AM at SS. Peter & Paul Ukrainian Church 519 Union Ave, Bridgeport, Pa. 19405

Friends may call on Friday morning from 9:00AM-10:00AM at the Church

Interment will take place at 1:30PM on Friday at St. Ann's Cemetery, Freeland, PA.
