Obituary of Mary Alice Micklos
Mary Alice Micklos was born on March16,1927, in Philadelphia. She was the daughter of the late Bernard Gray and the late Eleanor (Quinn) Gray. She died at Holy Redeemer Hospital in Meadowbrook on October 15, 2025 at the age of 98.
After graduating from West Catholic High School, Mary Alice went to work at Bell Telephone in Philadelphia. There she met her future husband, George P. Micklos, when he came to deliver a package to his sister and Mary Alice's co-worker, Catherine. She soon became an integral part of "The Micklos Girls." Mary Alice and George were happily married for 62 years until his death in 2010. They raised 1 daughter and 3 sons in the Mayfair section of Philadelphia.
After their children were grown, Mary Alice and George moved to Gloria Dei Towers in Huntingdon Valley where Mary Alice arranged entertainment for the residents, scheduled communion visits for her Catholic neighbors, helped new residents get acclimated and occasionally worked at the front desk. She was also an avid reader. A year ago she decided that she "didn't want to eat alone anymore" and she moved to St. Joseph's Manor in Meadowbrook. There she had to switch from her beloved Bridge games to Pinochle because she couldn't find any partners. She also introduced the residents to Rummikub which is now part of their weekly activities schedule.
Mary Alice was a devout and active Catholic and was a member of the Catholic Daughters of the Americas at St. Timothy's parish and later, a daily communicant at St. Albert the Great parish.
Mary Alice is survived by her children; Rick (Eileen) of Warminster, Sue Micklos-Zucca of Haddonfield, NJ, Jim (Sandi) of Houston, TX, and George of Jacksonville, Fl. Also surviving are 5 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend her Funeral Mass on Tuesday October 21 at 10:30 AM at St. Albert the Great Catholic Church, 212 Welsh Rd., Huntingdon Valley where a viewing will be held from 9 to 10:15 AM. Interment will be in Resurrection Cemetery, Bensalem.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in Mary Alice's memory may be made to St. Joseph's Manor, 1616 Huntingdon Pike, Meadowbrook, 19046.
