Obituary of Brenda L. Herring
Brenda Lee (Wagner) Herring, 78, of Eagleville, Pennsylvania (formerly of Bangor, Pennsylvania), passed away peacefully on October 24, 2025, surrounded by her family, following a courageous battle with cancer.
Born in 1946 in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, she was the daughter of the late Woodrow and Naomi (Dilcherd) Wagner. Brenda was a graduate of Pen Argyl High School, where she was selected as an exchange student to Germany during her senior year. She went on to earn a bachelor’s degree in Education from Millersville University, with a concentration in German in 1969.
Brenda began her career as a teacher’s aide at Wind Gap Elementary School and later taught kindergarten and was Director at Bangor Nursery and Day Care for 20 years. She subsequently served as card shop manager at Wegmans until her retirement in 2014.
She was married to her devoted husband, Donald C. Herring Jr., for 57 years. Together, they lovingly raised three daughters. Brenda built a home filled with music, plants, and love.
Brenda will be remembered for her warmth, kindness, generosity, and phenomenal sense of humor. She brought joy to others through her cooking and her gift of song, often sharing a song for every occasion. She found peace in nature, particularly in caring for her houseplants, gardening, and birdwatching. Above all, she treasured time spent with her family. It brought her great joy to have all her girls in one place and to attend her grandchildren’s athletic events.
Brenda was active in Bangor Junior Women’s Club and Blue Mountain Jaycee Wives where she served as President. She was an active member of Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in Bangor for many years where she taught Sunday School, sang in the choir, and served on Church Council. After moving to Eagleville, Brenda was an active member of St. Andrews Lutheran Church in Audubon, Pennsylvania.
She is survived by her husband Donald and her daughters Juli (Christian) Miller, Melissa (Robert) Bower, and Jill Flatley (partner Alex Maiter); grandchildren Natalie and Brandon Miller and Rachel and Ryan Bower and her brother Bryan (Winifred) Wagner.
In addition to her parents, Brenda was preceded in death by her in-laws, Donald and Vera Herring.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 29, at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in Bangor, Pennsylvania. Family and friends are invited to celebrate her life at a reception immediately following the service.
