Obituary of Beverly J. Burt
Beverly J. Burt
Beverly J. (Fish) Burt, 90, of East Norriton, Pennsylvania passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday, January 6, 2026.
She was born in Richwood, West Virginia on December 25, 1935, the daughter of the late Harold H. and the late Lucille Grey (Pierson) Fish. She graduated from Radnor High School in Radnor, PA in 1953, and then attended Penn State University, earning a degree in elementary education, where she was a member of the Pi Beta Phi Sorority. It was there that she met and married the love of her life, Payson W. Burt, Jr. They wed in 1956, and after graduating, they moved to Wayne, PA. As their family grew, they made their homes in Plymouth Meeting, PA, and finally settled in East Norriton in 1969.
She was an active member of Plymouth Meeting Evangelical Congregational Church of Plymouth Meeting, PA for over 60 years. During her time there she served on the board, taught Vacation Bible School, and helped organize and run many church functions such as covered-dish dinners, craft fairs, and bazaars. She directed the church’s Senior Choir for over 40 years.
Beverly began her teaching career as a permanent traveling substitute teacher at Radnor Elementary School until she took her leave to begin her family. After having three children, she rejoined the education field as a classroom aide for the Norristown Area School District, where she worked with special needs children at Paul Fly Elementary School and Eisenhower Middle School. In 1985 she was hired to teach 2nd grade at Marshall Street Elementary School in West Norriton Township, PA where she worked until her retirement in 2000.
Community service was always very important to Beverly, and she served in many capacities through the Penn Square Junior Women’s Club, the Norristown Area High School Football Parents’ Club, and the Parent-Teacher Organization at Paul Fly where she served as President and headed a committee to build a natural playground at the school in the 1970s. She also supported her children’s involvement in the Norristown Area High School’s Music and Drama programs, pitching in wherever she could.
One of her proudest accomplishments was establishing the first bloodmobile in East Norriton Township in the 1970s; she recruited over 600 donors by driving through the neighborhoods in a motor home while shouting information through a bullhorn. That first bloodmobile at Olivet Church set a precedent for Bloodmobiles in East Norriton that continues to this day. For decades, she worked Bloodmobiles throughout the area, helping register donors and taking care of them in the canteen after their donations.
Beverly was also a Volunteer at the Montgomery County Hospital in Norristown, and she continued that work when the hospital moved East Norriton for a total of 25 years.
In addition to her volunteer work, she enjoyed socializing with friends, playing cards, and traveling.
Survivors include son Payson Henry (Kristin) Burt of East Norriton, daughter Jayne Grey (Ataman) Burt-Ozyildirim of New York, NY, daughter Laurie (Bill) Baltrus of East Norriton, PA. and her Grandchildren Lilea, Andrew (Emily), and Will (Juliette).
Along with her husband and parents she was preceded in death by her sister Nancy Joan Fitzpatrick.
Her Memorial Service will be held Saturday, February 7, 2026 at 11:00 AM at Plymouth Meeting Evangelical Congregation Church, 42 East Germantown Pike, Plymouth Meeting, PA.
Friends may call on Saturday, February 7, 2026 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at the church.
