Obituary of James F. Markel

James F. Markel, age 89, of Limerick, PA passed away on February 8, 2026.

He was born in Darby, PA on November 15, 1936, the son of the late James  F. and Emma (Weiss) Markel.

Jim has been living at Arcadia at Limerick since May of 2025, formerly of Milton, DE and Aston, PA.  He was a dog lover and enjoyed his long career working on the Railroad. 

He is survived by his wife, Catherine L. “Kate” Markel (née Matthews) of Limerick; five children, James F. (Jan) Markel of Glen Rock, PA, Marcie (Jim) Godby of Gilbertsville, PA, Harry (Nance) Markel of Bethel, PA,  Paul (Mari) Markel of Carlisle, PA and Lisa (Brian) Willis of Collegeville, PA; 14 grandchildren, Jimmy, Justin, Josh, Laura, Christine, Harry Jr., Emma, John, Paul Jr., Jessica, Zach, Jake, Luke and Seth; and nine great grandchildren, Bennett, Connor, Regan, Brayden, Logan, Alex, Samantha, Lydia and Adeline. 

Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Emma and Dolores. 

His Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, February 14 at 10:00 AM in St. Teresa of Calcutta Church, 256 Swamp Pike, Schwenksville, PA 19473.

Interment will be private.    

Memorial contributions may be made in his name to the SPCA of Montgomery County, 1059 Sweisford Rd., Perkiomenville, PA 18074.
