Judith Lee Rieder

Judith (Judy) Lee Rieder, 78, of Blue Bell, Pa, died peacefully on May 13, 2026 at Morningside House in Blue Bell, PA. 

Judy devoted her life to her family.  She is survived by her loving husband of 56 years, Matthew Rieder.  Dear mother of Jennifer (Drew) Nelson of Roxborough, Matthew (Angela) Rieder, Jr. of Hulmeville, Pa, and Susan (Chris) Srogota of Blue Bell, Pa.  A proud grandmother of Aubrey Nelson, Kate Nelson, Mackenzie Rieder, Matthew Rieder III, Alison Srogota and Kelly Srogota.  Devoted sister to Jenny (Joe) Aherne.  Sister-in-law to Mary K. (Jack) Luke, and Terri Rieder (the late Andy).  A kind and loving Aunt to her nieces and nephews.  She also leaves behind beloved cousins and friends.

Judy is predeceased by her parents, Mary (Amons) and Robert Lee, her in-laws Maryanne (Duff) and Matthew A. Rieder, and brother-in-laws Andy and Bob. 

Judy greatly valued Catholic education, first as a student and through her vocation as an educator.  She attended St. Madeleine Sophie primary in Mount Airy.  She is a graduate of the Cecilian Academy (1965) and Chestnut Hill College (1969).  She began her teaching career in Philadelphia’s public schools.  She retired from teaching after 21 years of service at St. Stanislaus School in Lansdale, PA.  In her retirement, she enjoyed traveling with Matt, going to the theater, watching movies, and leisure reading.  She gave much of her time caring for her grandchildren.  She spent every summer of her early life and young adulthood with her family on 45th Street in Sea Isle City, NJ.  She shared this love for the shore by treating her family to a vacation in Sea Isle every year.  She will be greatly missed for her kind, caring nature and Irish wit.

Her Memorial Mass will be held Friday, May 22, 2026 at 11:00 AM from St. Helena RC Church, 1489 Dekalb Pike, Blue Bell, PA 19422, Blue Bell, PA. 

Friends may call on Friday, May 22, 2026 from 10:00 AM to 10:45 AM at the church.

Interment will take place in Holy Cross Cemetery, Yeadon, PA at a later date.
