Janet Marlene Mansoldo Obituary
“The winds of grace blow all the time. All we need to do is set our sails.”
Janet Marlene Mansoldo
May 12, 1939 – May 25, 2026
Janet Marlene (née Charles) Mansoldo, age 87, of East Norriton, Pennsylvania, passed away peacefully at her home on Monday, May 25, 2026.
Born in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, on May 12, 1939, Janet was the daughter of the late John Melvin and Miriam (Hartman) Charles. She grew up in Landisville, where her energy and spirit were evident early on. A natural athlete, she earned varsity letters in both tennis and field hockey at Hempfield High School. Janet also developed her musical talent, playing clarinet and singing in the chorus.
Janet trained at the Reading School of Nursing and devoted more than thirty years to caring for others as a Registered Nurse. She worked in both office and hospital settings, though the heart of her career was spent in the dialysis unit at Hackensack Hospital in New Jersey. Patients and coworkers alike knew her not only for her skill and compassion, but for her playful sense of humor. Janet was always looking for a way to make people laugh, especially on their hardest day. She had a quick wit and the ability to light up a room with a smile.
It was in those years that Janet stepped into the role she treasured above all others. Though her first marriage did not endure, it gave her the joy of her life: her only child, Ann. Living in Dumont, New Jersey also brought her the great partnership of her life: she met her husband, Roger, over a game of mixed doubles at a local tennis club in 1982. In 1990, the two retired together to Sedona, Arizona, where they would build a wonderful life full of travel, friends, neighbors and dogs.
In Sedona, Janet’s work at a local florist blossomed into a true devotion to flowers and gardening. She became a member of the “High Desert Designers” floral design club, competed in design competitions, and earned the distinction of Master Gardener. It was also in Sedona that she returned to music, taking up the bass clarinet and performing with the Sedona Concert Band. Her curiosity and vibrancy never slowed. An enthusiastic cook, she loved to host gatherings and parties and organized her neighborhood potluck group from the home she and Roger shared on White Cedar Drive. She was a devoted lover of dogs and wildlife alike, and an avid hiker and camper who proudly trekked in and out of the Grand Canyon not once, but twice. She gave generously of her time as a longtime volunteer with the Verde Valley Sanctuary.
After thirty-three years in Arizona, Janet and Roger returned to the East Coast in 2023, settling in East Norriton to spend more time with family. The move brought her closer to her roots in Landisville, where she happily reunited with friends from high school, gathering with them for monthly lunches. After so many years away, she was delighted to be among old friends and family once more.
Janet is survived by her husband, Roger B. Mansoldo of East Norriton, PA; her daughter, Ann (née DeVecchio) Winkowski, and son-in-law, David Winkowski, of Blue Bell, PA; her brother, Ron Charles, of Doylestown, PA; her nephews John and Mark Charles; and her two beloved grandsons, Matt and Alex.
Services and interment will be private.
