Charles W. "Chuck" Wilmot Obituary

Charles Wainwright Wilmot, a dedicated father, grandfather, and decorated combat veteran, passed away peacefully on June 1, 2026, at the age of 79. Born in Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania to George C. Wilmot, Sr. and Margaret Louise Wilmot, Chuck was raised in the Berwyn area. He was a proud graduate of Conestoga High School and went on to earn his bachelor's degree in business from the University of Miami before answering the call to serve his country.

A veteran of the United States Army, Chuck served with distinction as an Infantry Sergeant (E-5) during the Vietnam War. His leadership and bravery on the battlefield earned him multiple military decorations, most notably the Bronze Star Medal with an Oak Leaf Cluster (2nd Award), alongside the Vietnam Service Medal and the National Defense Service Medal.

Following his military service, Chuck returned home to Pennsylvania to build a vibrant civilian life. A man of immense creativity, sharp intellect, and a strong work ethic, he successfully founded, operated and built his business, Anchors Aweigh, focusing first on apparel in the banking and boating industries, and later on embroidered spirit-wear for Main Line area golf clubs and sports teams.

Chuck was a fun-loving person with a contagious laugh who brought joy into every room he entered. He believed in the power of strong personal relationships and formed deep, lasting bonds across every area of his life—with his family, his lifelong friends, and his colleagues and customers alike.

Chuck was also a man of many talents with a deep appreciation for craftsmanship, music, and the coast. As an exceptionally skilled woodworker, his talent was woven into the very fabric of his homes through his beautiful custom remodeling and detailed trim work. He found great freedom sailing the Cheaspeake, loved playing the organ and piano, and spent countless hours listening to the music he loved. He also deeply cherished the peace and relaxation of spending his summers at the Jersey shore with family and friends. His precision, dedication, and quiet patience defined everything he did.

A loyal and deeply generous friend, Chuck lived by the philosophy that relationships are meant to enrich the lives of others. He frequently went above and beyond for those he cared about—often doing "too much" by conventional standards—simply because he cared so deeply for everyone around him. His warmth, selflessness, and open heart will be missed by all who had the privilege of calling him a friend.

Chuck’s greatest legacy remains his family, whom he loved deeply and of whom he was incredibly proud. He is survived by his two sons: Kevin D. Wilmot and his wife Maryann Nagle Wilmot, Brett G. Wilmot and his wife Allison M. Wilmot.

His most beloved nickname was “Chiefy” to his cherished grandchildren: Ethan, Abigail, Cooper and Griffin Wilmot.

He is also survived by his brother, Robert D. Wilmot, Sr. and was predeceased in death by his brother George Wilmot, Jr.  Lastly, he will be missed and forever remembered by a community of lifelong friends, fellow veterans, and customers who will miss his unique “Chiefy-isms,” quick wit, laughter, and steady presence.

A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, June 5, 2026 at 11:00 AM at the Moore, Snear & Ruggiero Funeral Home, 300 Fayette St., Conshohocken, PA 19428.  Chuck’s family will receive relatives and friends on Friday morning from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM in the funeral home prior to the service.

Interment will be private at a later date in Westminster Cemetery, Bala Cynwyd, PA.
