Obituary of John C. Ritchie

Dr. John (Jack) C. Ritchie, Jr., age 88, of Upper Moreland, PA, Professor Emeritus of Finance at Temple University passed away on May 19, 2015. Beloved husband of Shirley E. Ritchie, loving father of John K. (& Susan) Ritchie of San Francisco, CA and Kathleen A. (& Bruce) Hedin of Trappe, PA, and five grandchildren: Drew, Stephanie, Collin, Isabella and Erin. Jack was raised on Southwest Philadelphia and an ardent fan of both football and baseball. Jack served in the U.S. Navy from early 1945 to August 1946. He became the first in his family to go to college and there he found his calling as a professor. Jack taught undergraduate and graduate studies at Temple University for 46 years until retiring in 2000. He loved teaching. He and his family went to Medellin Columbia, South America from February 1964 through May 1966 under a U.S. State Department contract (A.I.D.) where he was responsible for helping to create the first business school at the University level at the Escuela. Upon his return to the U.S., Dr. Ritchie worked as the Department Chairman of the Finance Department. Jack also served as both an Assistant and Associate Dean of the Fox School of Business, and during 1986 through 1987 functioned as the Acting Dean of the Fox School of Business. Jack wrote and/or co-authored several articles and two books in the area of business and investments. He was a consultant to many businesses and several federal government agencies. He will be missed and fondly remembered by family and friends. Relatives and friends may call on Friday, May 22, 2015 from 9:30 – 10:30 AM at the Chapel at Frederick Living, 2849 Big Road, Federick, PA 19435, to be followed immediately at 10:30 AM by a memorial service. Interment will be private. In Lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Jack's memory to: "Frederick Living Benevolent Fund", P.O. Box 498, Federick, PA 19435.
