Obituary of Horace M. "Skip" Fredericks, Jr.

Horace M. (Skip) Fredericks of Shannondell at Audubon, PA and Avalon, NJ passed away at Einstein Hospital on Monday, August 4, 2013. He was the loving husband of 60 years of Phyllis (Hood) Fredericks and father of three children: Scott Fredericks of Hanover, PA; Douglas (Sharleen) Fredericks of Gwynedd Valley, PA; daughter Sharon (John) Diab of Chalfont, PA; and grandfather of Austin Fredericks. A native of Morristown, NJ, he served in the Marine Reserves for two years, attended Columbia University for a year, and graduated from Dickinson College, Carlisle, PA. He earned a Bronze Star as a Korean veteran. For 22 years he worked at Alan Wood Steel Co., moving from the New York office to Philadelphia where he was a Sales Representative and on to the home office as Manager of Plate Sales. In 1977 he opened a steel warehouse in King of Prussia and later became the Purchasing Manager for Delaware Steel Co. For many years he was active at Messiah United Methodist Church as Lay Leader, Trustee, and Chairman of various boards. He had been involved in leadership with Boy Scout Troop 646, Jaycees, Alan Wood Mgrs. Club, and served as president of the Plymouth-Whitemarsh-Rotary Club. Fond of hunting and fishing, he held memberships in the NJ Hillview Club and the Ramblers Gun Clubs. At Shannondell he participated in the Wood Carving Class and the Model Railroad Club. A celebration of life will be held on Monday, August 12, 2013 at 11:00 A.M.at the Messiah United Methodist Church, 527 Ridge Pike, Lafayette Hill, Pa 19444. Friends may call on Monday morning from 10:00 to 11:00 A.M.at the church. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate memorial gifts to the above church.
