Obituary of Betty L. Murphy

Betty L. Murphy

Betty (Litka) Murphy, 90, of Trappe PA, passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, October 22, 2023. She was the wife of the late John Murphy with whom she shared 49 wonderful years of marriage.

She was born in Evansburg, PA. on February 4, 1933. She was the daughter of the late Adam and Elda (Halling) Litka. Prior to her illness, Betty was a very active member of St. Luke's U.C C. of Trappe. She was a Sunday School teacher for many years, she was a youth leader, sang in the choir, served on Church Council and the Hospitality Committee. She was always an eager volunteer. She loved her church family hugs.

She started her career at Superior Tube Company in the Accounting Department. After raising her 3 children, she also worked at AMC theaters and then for Ursinus College as an assistant cook and later in the Ursinus Book Store. Long after retirement years, she worked in after-school childcare for the Spring Valley YMCA until she was 81. She loved working with children.

Her talents were endless: singing, yodeling, whistling, poetry, arts and crafts, athletics (captain of her field hockey and basketball high school teams), and finding 4-leaf clovers. But more importantly, she was generous with her time and helping others, and she had a heart of gold for where she held a special place for all children and animals (especially her kitty cats). She was a wonderful mother and grandmother and cherished her 5 grandchildren. With her cheerful and energetic personality, she was always playing and being silly bringing laughter and smiles to their faces.

Betty is survived by her children Jill Loftus, Jack Murphy, and Jann (& Doug) Kochel, 5 grandchildren Zachary (& Haleigh) Geouque, Benjamin Loftus, Brielle Loftus, Aaron Murphy, and Chaz (& Ali) Kochel, and 3 great-grandchildren Chase and Adeline Kochel and Jack Geouque. Also, by brother Lane Litka and sister-in-law Patricia Litka, as well as nephew Jeff and nieces Diane, Joy and Patti.

Along with her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by brother Everett Lee Litka, son-in-law William Loftus, and nephew David Litka.

Family and friends are invited to call on Saturday, November 4th from 10:00 AM to 10:45 AM at St. Luke's U.C.C. 200 West Main Street, Trappe, PA.

Her service will be Saturday November 4, 2023 at 11:00 AM at St. Luke's United Church of Christ.
