Obituary of Marilyn A. Turner
Marilyn A. Turner, M.S.
Mrs. Marilyn A. Turner, 95, of Audubon, P.A. passed away Thursday, November 28, 2024. She was born in Clifton Springs, N.Y. on May 9, 1929, the daughter of the late Andre and Rosalie Vande Voorde. She was the fifth valedictorian of Clifton Springs Central School.
Marilyn earned a B.S. degree in Secretarial Science and Education in 1950 from Nazareth College. Following her college graduation, she taught high school in Fairport, N.Y. for one year. She married William (Bill) J. Turner in 1951 and raised four children. Later in life, Marilyn completed a nursing degree, a lifelong dream, at Pace University and a master’s degree in health administration at Long Island University. Her health career included 10 years as a medical/surgical nurse at Westchester County Hospital and 15 years as the corporate health professional at the Bank of New York in Westchester County.
In addition to raising four children and working as a nurse, Marilyn was active in church activities as a religious education teacher, parish council member, lector, and eucharistic minister at St. Francis of Assisi Church in Mount Kisco, N.Y. She had diverse interests such as tennis, swimming, ballroom dancing, reading, politics, and bridge.
During their 69 years of marriage, Bill and Marilyn enjoyed traveling the world including adventures in Europe, Africa, and India. Initially retiring to New Hope, P.A., they finally settled in Audubon, P.A. in 2009. Marilyn was a lifelong, faithful Catholic and member of St. Teresa of Avila Church in Audubon, P.A.
Marilyn is survived by her children Eileen M. (Leonard) Mitchard of Annapolis, M.D.; Ann C. (Terry) Turner Allen of Binghamton, N.Y.; Matthew J. (Suzanne) Turner of Troy, N.Y.; and daughter-in-law Lynn Turner of Chester, N.J.; ten grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Marilyn was extremely proud of her family. Her legacy is a devoted and loving wife, mother and grandmother who instilled in her children and grandchildren the importance of education and hard work, as well as the values of honesty, integrity, discipline, and kindness.
Marilyn was pre-deceased by her husband, William J. Turner, and her son, Patrick W. Turner.
A funeral Mass will occur on Thursday, December 5, 2024 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Francis of Assisi Church, 2 Green Street, Mt. Kisco, N.Y.
Interment will take place on Thursday, December 5, 2024 following Mass at St. Francis of Assisi Cemetery, 236 Lexington Avenue, Mt. Kisco, N.Y.
