Hi Jason,
I used to love taking walks with you at this time of year and looking at all of the christmas lights. I hope you can feel all of the love that is pouring out of us during this season of love.

To the Minehart family:
I am writing a note at this time to offer your family comfort at a time of your bereavement.
You have my deepest sympathy. Death is a sting that God says will soon be done away with. Assuredly, the scripture at 1 Cor. 15:26 says: "And the last enemy, death, is to be brought to nothing!" Our loving Creator knows how hard this is on one's family to lose a loved one, especially so young. This was never his purpose for mankind! We are told at Ezekiel 18:32 “I do not take any pleasure in the death of anyone!”
As you can see, it is not God's will for us to die, which is why he has given us the hope of everlasting life! (Rev 21:3,4). As the God and Father of tender mercies, he wants you to find comfort in Him through prayer and to draw close to him. (James 4:8)

Sorrowfully submitted,
Darlene

Jason I will miss...
When we would walk around center city and pretend to see Spiderman swinging among the skyscrapers.
When the bass jumped right out of the lake and grabbed your lure when we were fishing together.
When you told me I watched Chitty Chitty Bang Bang too much because I sang that stupid song alot.
Exploring Crystal Cave together.
When you would drive my car around the Malvern Target Parking lot and sometimes you would step on the gas just to scare me!
Listening to DJ "Spinbad" on a Saturday night after your meeting.
When you would teach me card games I'd forgotten how to play.
When we would conquer the handheld arcade games in our South Philly apartment.
When you would tell me your thoughts on Science and Philosophy.
Jason, you taught me to be kind to everyone because you never know a person's internal struggles.
I love you always and forever, Dad.

Jason was in my karate class. I remember him well - such a gentle soul. It was so wonderful to watch him progress through karate, gaining a sense of self along the way. And, Heather - I well remember sitting beside you during Jason's Black Belt test. He really seemed to blossom that day, giving off an aura of self-assured confidence. I was so proud of him that day, as I know you were. Memories to hold onto during this time.
I have no words that seem adequate for the loss of such a lovely soul. So, I will quote from a blessing by John O-Donohue in hopes that some part of what he says may touch you:
As you huddle around the torn silence,
Each by this lonely deed exiled
To a solitary confinement of soul,
May some small glow from what has been lost
Return like the kindness of candlelight.
As your eyes strain to sift
This sudden wall of dark
And no one can say why
In such a forsaken, secret way,
This death was sent for …
May one of the lovely hours
Of memory return
Like a field of ease
Among these graveled days.
May the Angel of Wisdom
Enter this ruin of absence
And guide your minds
To receive this bitter chalice
So that you do not damage yourselves
By attending only at the hungry altar
Of regret and anger and guilt.
May you be given some inkling
That there could be something else at work
And that what to you now seems
Dark, destructive and forlorn,
Might be a destiny that looks different
From inside the eternal script.
May vision be granted to you
To see this with the eyes of providence.
May your loss become a sanctuary
Where new presence will dwell
To refine and enrich
The rest of your life
With courage and compassion.
And may your lost loved one
Enter into the beauty of eternal tranquility,
In that place where there is no more sorrow
Or separation or mourning or tears.
From "To Bless The Space Between Us" (a.k.a. "Benedictus") by John O'Donohue (C) 2007

Jason,
I'm sorry that I wasn't able to help you overcome the evil of this world. In strong faith I believe that you have finally been put on a path of love and healing unlike anything that you could have found here.
I miss you already!

I've gotten a star named after Jason. Once I receive the certificate with the coordinates, I'll let you know so that you can look up (with a telescope) and see him shining brightly in the sky.
