Obituary of Emily D. Todd

Emily Todd, 90, of Zephyrhills, Fla., formerly of Conshohocken, Pa., passed away on Wednesday, February 6, 2013. She was born on August 3, 1922 the youngest daughter of late Burrell and Elizabeth "Lizzie" (Cobb) Dozier. Emily was the wife of the late Reid Todd, a WW II Army Veteran PFC for 63 years, marrying October 30, 1943. She was born in Saluda, SC and raised by her parents until moving to Conshohocken at the age of 12 where she resided most of her life. Her last years were spent under the care of her grand-daughter, Deidria C. Todd in Riverview, Fla. She was educated in the Saluda School System and was baptized in her early life at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church in Saluda. She became a long standing member of the historic St. John's AME Church in Conshohocken, PA where she attended Church School and Bible Study serving faithfully as Trustee, Class Leader, Stewardess, Missionary and the "The Sounds of Joy" singers. She was baptized as a Methodist at St. John's as an adult. Along with being a homemaker she had been employed as a domestic in two private homes for years and in an office building in Plymouth Meeting. She was affectionately known to family and friends as Mom, Nanna or Cousin or Aunt Emily. She was a homemaker and loved children. She helped in rearing many children of family and friends. She was a member of the annual Dozier/Gibson Family Reunion, Crispus Attucks Social Club, Just-Us Club of Phila/Consho and the Socialites. She loved to cook, bake and watch soap operas, Lifetime and Ellen. She spent many vacations in Wildwood, N.J. with family and friends. Emily leaves to cherish in her memory: daughters Sandy (and Raymond) of Harris, Wildwood; Reida Todd, Norristown; a son, Anthony Todd, Philadelphia; daughter-in-law Velma Hilton, two sisters-in-law: Dorothy Kelly, Cleveland, Ohio.; Jean Brooks, Cleveland, Ohio.; 7 grandchildren, and a host of great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren, along with nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Special mention are given to Ernest Cook, Adelphi, MD, Quincy Williams, Philadelphia, PA and Michael Ryan, Riverview, FL whom she adopted as her own and look forward to speaking with frequently. She remembered every loved one's birthday deceased or present off of the top of her head. She was preceded in death by: her husband, Reid; brothers: Willie, James and Calvin; sisters: Elizabeth Mae, Evelyn and Sophie. Mrs. Todd's Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, February 12, 2013 at 10:00 A.M. from St. John's AME Church, 100 East Eighth Avenue, Conshohocken. The Rev. Edith J. Patterson-Payne will be officiating. Friends may call on Tuesday from 9:00 to 10:00 A.M. at the Church. Interment will be in Valley Forge Gardens, King of Prussia, Pa.
