Skip was a supervisor and mentor to me during my internship at Norristown State Hospital in 1990 and 1991. I was only in Pennsylvania that one year but my friendship with Skip continued. He is one of those saints in my life who has made me a better man by knowing him. His smile, his heart, his encouraging words, that knowledge that he found favor in me - this type of thing that we all need comes to us as gifts from God and Skip knowing me was such a gift. How wonderful that one year of internship has led to a lifetime of friendship with the Beckers. Marianne, Eric, and Todd: Thanks for sharing your husband/father with us!

I have been friends and neighbors with Skip and Marianne for 35 years or more and count myself lucky to have known them for so long. Skip was always unfailingly courteous and warm each time we met and as I look back through the years I remember many conversations we had on a variety of subjects. Every Spring he would fire up the rototiller and create a wonderful vegetable garden, then share the bounty when everything seemed to ripen at the same time. Skip had a genuine appreciate of nature and built a variety of bird houses and feeders to hang around the property. These attracted many different species, including owls, and one summer a Cooper's Hawk raised its young in the yard. Thanks to Skip I finally was able to observe my very first baby owl and best of all, a bluebird. He loved his rabbits and always seemed to have a new nest of little ones to share with me, having faith that I would not drop the tiny life. How proud he and Marianne were when the new color of Rex rabbit named "Amber" was approved. And rightly so! Years of keeping meticulous breeding records had finally paid off! Skip also enjoyed reading and when he read a book I had passed on to Marianne, he agreed with me that it was probably the best story of fiction he had ever read. I can still see his enthusiastic face as he described where he was in the book and what he thought about the various plots. His insight made the story all the more enjoyable. I am going to miss Skip more than I can say and knowing him and Marianne all these years has enriched my life.

We all loved Skip. Not only was he a peacefully delightful man to share a conversation, he was genuinely interested in every word you said. His knowledge of rabbits and rabbit genetics was a topic that drew my attention and propelled me to start teaching our 4-H youth about rabbit genetics. I talk about him at every class I teach.
I learned a lot from Skip and looked forward to chatting with him at all of the rabbit shows. We were proud members of the Mason-Dixon Rex Club that he loved so much. His legacy lives on in the Amber Rex.

Skip,
I thank you, my dear brother in Christ, and fellow grandfather, for the love you have shown us all. Your kindness, humility, sincerity, and good nature, made the times we spent together truly special. You are a great man. And you are an awesome grandfather. I speak to you in the present tense, and directly, because in Christ you and I are always among the living; even if physical death causes us to go home to our great God. And that is pretty awesome, to say the least. We will all look forward to seeing you again in a day still ahead. We hope to press on the way you did. I promise to love the grand kids as well as you did. And that will be a good challenge. You are blessed! And we are also for knowing you. We love you big time. And we are proud to be part of your family.

Our families have been joined in love for a number of years now, and it's with joy I remember the laughter we've shared, the enthusiasm Skip always had for all things grandchild related, and the unending interest he showed in others' lives. I can still hear his often said phrase, "REALly?" as he listened to someone's story. He seemed to hang on every word, and enjoyed a good story told over and over again.
Marianne, you are loved and being prayed for daily. We are very saddened by Skip's death, although we know his was a strong faith and his current reality must be one of unending delight in the best story of them all.
