We were saddened and heart sick to learn of Al's passing. Upon our arrival to The Birchrunville Store Café last Thursday evening, we were greeted by Danny sitting on the front porch. Danny was enjoying an truly remarkable bottle of 1945 Mouton Rothschild - one of Al’s favorite wines. Of course, we shared some wine and memories of Al and toasted our Cafe friend. Soon, our hearts were filled with fond memories of the times we recalled of Al and Anne enjoying each other, their fabulous wines, food and fellow diners on Thursday evenings at The Cafe.
We miss you Al. Thursdays at the Cafe will never be the same. We now look fondly over at your chair and table and will of course wish you were there to greet us with your contagious smile and warmness. Your follow diners, Jenn, Emily, Jess, Frances will surely miss you and your grand entrance and delightful presence. You lite up the room upon your arrival each Thursday. Your sense of kindness and style were unmistakable. Your willingness to share knowledge of and outstanding wines with others will be cherished forever. Your remarkable and generous personality is one of a kind. A special person, one in a million as they say. Like the bouquet and taste of a fine wine and ring of the meeting of two wine glasses, you will linger forever in our memories. We cherish getting to know you thank you for allowing us to share in your delights.
Chin-chin!!
Anne, Al’s family and friends we are so sorry for your loss.

How very sad to learn of Al's death. Thankful for PRHS reunions which allowed for time to reconnect. Great and genuine guy.

Al and I worked together during his relatively short time at SMS. But a mutual love of baseball, poker and music made the friendship last a lot longer than being a colleague. Al was a generous man in a lot of ways. He appreciated fine things and liked to share them with others. I had a all too brief reunion with him last year as he passed through near my home. The laughs and conversations were just like we'd left off over a decade prior. And I did get to meet the lovely Ann. I have great memories of round tables, bottles and glasses, chips, pots and cards all taken with equal seriousness. Morning Christmas parties before kids with omelets and cocktails kicking off the festivities of the day. I'll miss you Al. A lot.

I met Al almost 20 yrs ago.. He was a true gentleman, never speaking or acting less than cordially. Always he made everyone feel at home wherever the crowd was gathered.
It's difficult losing friends. I've known Al over a third of my life. I will be missing him the rest of it. I toasted Al many times since his passing and will continue to do so every time a glass is raised either in silence, or in his memory.
I certainly give warm condolences to Anne, and Al's family, and wish them timely solace.

SO sorry to hear this sad news. Al was such a gentle soul who always smiled with honesty. Karen and I had the pleasure to spend a number of wine dinners and get togethers with Al, and he was always engaging and wonderful to be around. My condolences to Anne and all of his many loved ones and friends. Peace.

My condolences go out to Al's family as they are in my thoughts and prayers. I worked with Al and reported directly to him for a time at TMNAS. He was a good man who always had a sunny disposition and a sharp wit. His guidance as well as friendship will be missed.

Ann, Roxane and I are saddened by Al's death. It's fitting we're wine tasting right now. I won't soon forget our wine trips with Al, Steve and Bob to Burgundy, Al, Steve and Dominic to the Rhone and Al, Steve, Roxane and me to Spain and Italy. Al was my intrepid co-pilot while I did the driving. I won't soon forget our trip to the Rhone and being on the TGV drinking wine and eating cheese at 10 in the morning with Al. His wit and sense of direction will be missed and we will remember him and those trips fondly. Thoughts and prayers to you. John & Roxane
