Obituary of James M. O'Connor
James M. "Oakie" O'Connor, 76, passed away Friday morning, June 7, 2013, at the Lankenau Hospital of Lower Merion Twp., PA.
Born in Conshohocken, PA on May 20, 1937 and is the son of the late Matthew J. O'Connor and the late Mary (Morley) O'Connor.
Oakie has lived in Conshohocken all of his life, as well as a lifelong member of St. Matthew's RC Church. He graduated from St. Matthew's High School, Class of 1955 and he began to work at the Philadelphia Electric Company as a lineman. He served in the US Army from 1960 - 1962. He rose to the rank of Corporal in the Artillery and served as a paratrooper in the 101st Airborne Division. After leaving the Army he returned to the Philadelphia Electric Company and worked there for 38 years. After retiring from PECO, he worked as a ranger at the Green Valley Country Club of Lafayette Hill, Pa. He was a member of Fort Campbell Parachute Club of Ft. Campbell, KY.
James is survived by his loving wife Lucille (Radatti) O'Connor, of Conshohocken, PA. Two Daughters Lynn (& Kirby Bell) McGinley, of Philadelphia, PA, and Shaleen (& Kevin Gollings) O'Connor, of Pittsburgh, PA, a Son Col. Shawn (& Evah) McGinley, of Fairfax Station, VA, 3 Sisters Mary Foley, of West Chester, PA, Catherine Hoy of Audubon, PA, and Alice O'Connor, of Conshohocken, PA. Also survived by 7 Grandchildren Alexander, Ryann, Rowen, Nathan, Garrett, Max, and Many Nieces & Nephews.
Along with his parents he was preceded in death by a Sister Teresa Ryan, and 3 Brothers Matthew O'Connor, Michael O'Connor & Thomas O'Connor.
His Funeral Mass will be held on Tuesday, June 11, 2013 at 10:30 A.M. from the St. Matthew's RC Church, Third & Fayette Streets, Conshohocken. Clergy: Fr. J. Thomas Heron officiating.
Friends may call on Monday Evening from 7:00 to 9:00 P.M. & Tuesday, Jun 11, 2013 from 9:00 to 10:00 A.M. at the Moore, Snear & Ruggiero Funeral Home, 300 Fayette Street, Conshohocken PA.
Interment will be held at Calvary Cemetery, West Conshohocken, PA
