Obituary of Paul E. Grant

With his blue eyes, wide smile and silver hair it was easy to remember Paul “General” Grant. The former civil engineer, 82 died on October 23, 2013 peacefully of complications from cancer at Keystone House, Wyndmoor, PA in the company of his family. He had resided in Harleysville. Born in Norristown, son of the late Paul F. and Agnes C. (nee Horner), Mr. Grant was a 1949 graduate of West Catholic High School and served his country as a reservist on Willow Grove Naval Air Station. As a young man, his early passion was basketball where he played in local Philadelphia semi-pro league. Aside from raising his family, his most significant accomplishment was managing construction of Interstate 476, better known as the Blue Route, for Glasgow Inc (one of four contractors awarded the project). He also was employed by James D. Morrissey and Lisbon Contractors. He became an avid cyclist in the mid 1980’s introducing his family to the sport and leading rides throughout Bucks and Montgomery counties. Weekend rides to Lake Galena were highly anticipated. Annual attendance at the Corestates Cycling Championship (Philly Cycling Classic) and the Manayunk Wall were a must-see event. Upon retirement, his passion turned to camping and fly fishing taking annual trips to Pulaski, NY and the Salmon River. Locally, he loved fly fishing in the Little Lehigh Rover and was an active member of the regional chapter of Trout Unlimited. Above all, Mr. Grant loved time spent with his family. Additionally, Mr. Grant loved food, barbecuing and swimming in the back yard, his dogs, music, especially Frank Sinatra, the beach, the mountains and all Philadelphia sports. He will be sadly missed. The eldest brother, he is survived by Robert, Edmund, William. He was beloved husband to Johan (Gigax); devoted father of Brian, Colleen (Perez), Johan (Moran), Maureen (DeLucia) and Paul D. Loving grandfather of Lauren, Zachary, Rachel, Jessica, Thomas, Shannon, Ryan and Grace.
