Obituary of Joseph A. Capone

Joe Capone died on February 8, 2014 in California. Joe was born May 19, 1955, growing up in Audubon, Pa. His parents were Joseph and Yolanda (Piermarini) Capone. He attended St. Teresa of Avila grade school, Archbishop Carroll High School, and Merrimack College, near Boston, Massachusetts. As a youth, he competitively played baseball, soccer, and ice hockey through his high school years, with one year on the college hockey team, followed by three years of club hockey. Ice hockey was his passion, as a goalie since the age of eight, and he was still playing hockey in a men's league in California through the age of 57. Joe moved to Sacramento, Ca at the age of 27, being promoted to a sales management position while with the U.S. Gypsum Chemical Division. He eventually moved on to other outside sales stints in the construction industry, spending the last fourteen years with Garland Industries. Joe was a top performer, and as with all his endeavors, extremely well liked and a valuable team member. In 1986, he met and married the love of his life, Jann Blazona. Joe came from a large extended Italian- American family, boasting 20 first cousins. He was very proud of his heritage. Beyond hockey, Joe was an avid reader, wine enthusiast and wine maker, occasional bocce player and fisherman, and remained a loyal follower of the Philadelphia sports teams. Joe was a cheese steak aficionado of the highest order (provolone with) and was rumored to have seen Bruce Springsteen over 50 times in concert. He is survived by his wife of 27 years, Jann, an older brother David (Ginny) of Collegeville several nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews, who all saw Joe as both a favorite uncle and valuable mentor in their lives. Services are being held Saturday, February 22,2014 11:30 AM at Augustus Lutheran Church, 717 West Main Street, Trappe, Pa. 19426. The service is in the old church which is unheated, so please dress accordingly.
