Obituary of Betty Lou Bickings

Betty Lou (Rhoads) Bickings died on April 24, 2019 at home with her family after succumbing to a recent illness.  She was born in Norristown, PA on June 20, 1934 and was the only child of Charles and Ethel (Gil) Rhoads and the wife of the late Thomas “Tucker” C. Bickings, Sr. 

She was a graduate of the Norristown High School, Class of 1952.  After school she worked at the F.W. Woolworth Company and PECO.  She then went on to do the secretarial work at Central Comminutions, Inc., for which the family co-owned.  She as a member of the Colony Club of West Norriton and sang with their “Coloneers” group that went around to nursing homes to entertain residents.  She was a long-standing member of the Plymouth Meeting Evangelical Church, where she served as a Sunday School Teacher for many years.  She was a former member of the Plymouth Community Ambulance.  More recently she volunteered with Colonial Neighborhood Council’s “Meals on Wheels” program serving meals to shut-ins around the area, as well as volunteering for the former Montgomery Hospital, continuing on with Einstein Montgomery Hospital.   She thoroughly enjoyed doing both up until her recent illness.

In addition to her husband and parents, she is survived by her three children, Thomas “Bud” Bickings, Jr, of Plymouth Meeting; Dawn Leedom (Thomas) of Conshohocken; and Christopher Bickings (Cyndi) of Birdsboro. Her grandchildren, who she loved so very much, Jennifer O’Neill (Mark), Jessica Leedom, Abigail Bickings, Madison Bickings, and Patrick Tucker Bickings.

Her Funeral Service will be held on Monday, April 29, 2019 at 11:00 AM from the Moore, Snear & Ruggiero Funeral Home, 300 Fayette Street, Conshohocken, PA.  Friends may call on Monday from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at the Funeral Home.  Interment will take place in Valley Forge Memorial Gardens, King of Prussia, PA.
