Obituary of Rosemary A. Carmody

Rosemary A. Carmody, 85, of Audubon, PA, beloved wife of Eugene J. Carmody of Roselle Park, NJ (pre-deceased) passed away peacefully on August 02, 2021 at her home surrounded by the love of her family. She was born in Narberth, PA to the late Mary and Michael McDevitt, attended West Chester University and earned a master’s degree in Guidance from Villanova University. She married Gene, the love of her life, in 1971 and together they supported the local community of Roselle Park – through Gene’s involvement in politics and Rosemary’s many years as a teacher and guidance counselor in the school system.

Rosemary’s passion for teaching and commitment to her students extended well beyond the walls of the school buildings in which she taught. She provided support and friendship to many of her students outside the classroom and formed strong bonds that lasted through the years.  She generously offered advice and guidance to friends and family, typically starting with the words, “that reminds me of a former student of mine…"

Together Rosemary and Gene supported and promoted higher education and the arts, providing scholarships, serving on boards, volunteering, and encouraging everyone around them to continue a journey of lifelong learning. Rosemary and Gene loved to travel and had a true appreciation for new places and experiences. Each trip was an adventure from which they inevitably returned with amazing stories and new lifelong friendships. Upon retirement, Rosemary and Gene moved to their beautiful home on the lagoon in Point Pleasant, NJ, where they welcomed the company of family and friends.

Surviving are Rosemary’s cousin, Jim Connell and his wife Marilyn , her loving “nieces” Eileen Connell, Kara Thompson (Michael), Patty Pawlow (Eric), Katie White (Chris), Beth Green (Phil), and their children,  as well as Gene’s niece and nephews, Kathy Magliaro, Jack, Gary, and George Carmody, and their families.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at on Monday, August 16, 2021 at 11:00am at Church of the Assumption, 113 Chiego Place, Roselle Park, NJ.

Entombment will follow at St. Gertrude Cemetery, Colonia, NJ.
