Suzanne Schmitz

Obituary of Suzanne L. Schmitz

On Sunday, October 24, 2021, Suzanne L. Schmitz, beloved wife, mother, sister, grandmother and friend, passed away very peacefully, surrounded by her loving family.

Suzanne will always be remembered for the love she gave to others, always putting others before herself. She was selfless, inquisitive for the truth, and always up for an adventure or trip (especially to Italy). Even when Suzanne could no longer travel, she lived vicariously through others, excited for them to find happiness and joy. So many people considered Suzanne a loyal, loving friend, which is evident by how many friendships she made and kept throughout her 72 years.

Suzanne’s husband, David, of 41 years was the love of her life and she was the love of his life. They were always holding hands and treating each and every anniversary as another ‘wonderful’ year! Suzanne was an amazing mother and best friend to her daughter Evin. They were close beyond measure.

Suzanne’s motto was ‘Every day is a gift!” and she lived accordingly, never taking one day for granted. Suzanne fought a long, valiant fight against cancer and never once complained. Her fight to the very end showed how much she loved life, her family, and her friends.

In keeping with Suzanne’s giving nature, she was the school nurse at Homer Intermediate School in Homer, NY for 18 years and dedicated herself to helping children and their families. She also volunteered for Aid to Women Victims of Violence as well as Cortland County Hospice. She leaves a legacy of strength, determination, dedication, and compassion.

Suzanne will remain with her family and friends in spirit. Daughter of the late Francis (and Joan) Lasette, she is survived by her loving husband, David C. Schmitz of Little York, NY; daughter, Evin (& Wayne) Anglace of Collegeville, PA; sister, Denise (& Robert) Schmitz of Truxton, NY; brother, John (& DeeDee) Lasette of Truxton, NY; and sister, Terry (& Richard) Rohllf of Mantoloking, NJ.  Suzanne is also survived by three grandchildren, Paige, Victoria and Ryan, as well as many nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends are invited to her Celebration of Life to be held in Ithaca, NY on Saturday, November 6, 2021. Please contact Suzanne’s family for specific details on time and venue. For out- of -town guests, we can provide accommodation ideas.
