Obituary of Howard E. Johns

Howard E. Johns, 92, of Plymouth Meeting, passed away peacefully Saturday morning in the home he built 60 years ago. His loving family was by his side. Howard was the husband of the late Josephine (Soldano) Johns. He was born in Navarre, Ohio, on May 26th, 1923 son of the late Dora Marie Watson Johns and Luther Johns, and the beloved grandson of Laura Watson. He was pre deceased by his sister Virginia Nemeth and brother Bill Johns. Howard was very proud of his service in the Army during WWII. He was a staff sergeant with Company C, 266th Engineer Combat Battalion building bridges in Germany, France, England, Luxembourg, and Belgium. His was a member of the Catholic War Veterans Post #1182. Howard was a loyal member of Carpenters Union Local 167. Everyone who knew him admired his woodworking talents and he was fond of telling stories about working on the Montgomery County Courthouse, the World Trade Center and the Limerick Power plant. He was past Vice President of the Holy Saviour Senior Citizens club and enjoyed traveling, the outdoors, and feeding the "critters" in the back yard. His sense of humor and friendly nature made a lasting impression on all who met him. He is survived by his daughters Maria Johns Tonti, wife of Ben Tonti, of Plymouth Meeting and Long Beach Island; and Diane Etnier, wife of Carey Etnier of West Norriton. He dearly loved his grandchildren Erin Elizabeth Etnier, and Eric Scott Etnier and his fiancé Dr. Julie Kobie. He will be missed by his step grandchildren Lauren Tonti and Jennifer Tonti Davis and great grandsons Nate and Jackson. Also surviving are sisters-in-law Frances Diecidue of Long Island NY, Mary DeVuono and husband Frank of East Norriton, Rose Templeton of Conshohocken and many nieces and nephews. His Funeral Mass will be held on Thursday, May 12, 2016 at 10:00 AM from the Holy Saviour RC Church, 407 East Main Street, Norristown, Pa 19401. Friends may call on Wednesday evening May 11, 2016 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM & Thursday, May 12, 2016 from 8:30 to 9:15 AM at the Moore, Snear & Ruggiero Funeral Home, 19 East Germantown Pike, East Norriton, Pa 19401. Interment will take place in St. Patrick's Mausoleum, East Norriton, Pa 19401. Memorial contributions may be made in his memory to: Catholic War Veterans Post # 1182, 1005 Tremont Street Norristown, Pa 19401 OR an animal shelter of your choice.
