Obituary of Martha L. Smith

Martha L. Smith  

 

Martha Louise (Bell) Smith, age 82, passed away peacefully at home on December 31st, 2022.

 

Born to the late Russell Bell and Emma Lou (Mims) Bell on January 23rd, 1940, she was the eldest of her siblings.  During childhood, she grew up in Conshohocken, Pennsylvania and earned her diploma from Conshohocken High School. 

 

In April 1964, Martha married Warner Smith Sr. and had 6 children and 1 stepdaughter.

She was a Psychiatric Aide at the Norristown State Hospital for over 20 years where she retired and worked as a Secretary for the Colonial Middle School after her retirement. 

 

As a lifetime member of the St. John African Methodist Episcopal Church of Conshohocken, PA under the leadership of Pastor Bertha Johnson, she served as a Sunday School Teacher, Missionary, Senior Choir Member and Head Usher.  She was also an affiliated member of the South Coatesville Life Center Church of Coatesville, PA under the leadership of Pastor W. Larry Johnson.

 

Martha was a member of Elmwood Lodge #438 and served as Chaplin.  Her most enjoyable moments were spending time with her family, traveling, playing cards, cooking every Sunday, and singing. 

 

She leaves behind her daughters, Pastor Lisa Johnson, Anndria Watkins, sons, Warner Smith Jr., Malcolm Smith Sr., Charles Smith; brothers John Bell Sr., Russell Bell Jr., Sisters Rev. Lafrance Johnson, Evelyn Kent, and Alberta Scott as well as a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, and beloved family members.

 

Along with her husband and parents she was preceded in death by a granddaughter Rayyesa Glasgo, daughter Lynda Bell-Smith, brother Stephen Bell and sisters Lorraine Smith and Hazel Williams-Harden and stepdaughter Vicki Allen.

 

Her passion and integrity to those she loved was unwavering. Her infectious smile and laughter will live on forever.

 

She will be laid to rest aside her husband Warner Smith at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, located in Annville, PA.

Her Funeral Service will be held Wednesday, January 11, 2023 at 10:30 AM at St. John AME Church, 100 E 8th Ave, Conshohocken, PA 19428.

Friends may call on Wednesday, January 11, 2023 from 9:00 AM to 10:15 AM at the church.

Interment will be in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville, Pa on Wednesday January 11, 2020 at 1:30 PM.
