Obituary of Shirley E. Blomstrom

Shirley E. Blomstrom  

Shirley E. (Barrows) Blomstrom, 86, of Plymouth Meeting, PA passed away Saturday, January 14, 2023. 

She was born in Brooklyn, NY on May 8, 1936, the daughter of the late Charles J. and the late Isabel (Lyons) Barrows.

Shirley has lived in Plymouth Meeting since 1960.

She was a longtime active member of Epiphany of our Lord Roman Catholic Church of Plymouth Meeting, Pa.

Shirley frequented the area malls and enjoyed shopping.  She had a passion for going to the Hair Salon on Friday’s and looking sharp for the weekend’s events.  Along with her husband, she relished in excursions to the casinos and the Green Dragon in Lancaster, and loved dining out at many of the areas great restaurants with her dinner groups.

Shirley treasured spending time with family and friends. She fondly reminisced her many summers at Mermaid Swim Club, trips to Cape May, vacations with her “T-Shirt Matching” close friends to Florida, and entertaining at her home with dinner and backyard pool BBQ parties no matter the occasion.

Shirley attended Becker College in Worcester, Massachusetts and received an Associate’s Degree.

Shirley worked as a children’s aide at a nursery school in Plymouth Valley, and later as a secretary in the Archbishop Kennedy High School Athletic Department. 

She was a seasoned volunteer throughout her life being involved with countless activites for her church, the schools, and the children.  Shirley volunteered at Epiphany of Our Lord School as a gym teacher, ran the Parish Annual Bake Sale, assisted with the Parish Christmas Bazaar and Fashion Show, served on the All-Student Epiphany School Reunion Committee, and organized the Parish Jubilee Celebration and Events.  She volunteered for the youth sports programs for many seasons and was a regular at snackstand fundraising.  She also served on the Plymouth Jr. ABA Committee to bring the World Biddy Basketball Tournament to Plymouth Township.  She was community minded and worked at the local precinct polling stations on election days and delivered food for the Meals on Wheels program.  Shirley was on the Executive Committee for the Archbishop Kennedy High School Football Booster “GridIron” Club.  As a Booster, she coordinated the Communion Breakfast, numerous fundraisers, game programs, and anything else Head Coach Christian Bockrath asked her to do.  She was the spirit of “Saints Pride”. 

Shirley was also a homemaker and she strived to make sure her family was taken care of each and every day.  She adored her grandchildren and took every opportunity to spoil them with a treat.  She cherished welcoming visitors to her home.

She was the wife of Late - Laurence E. Blomstrom.

Survivors include, Son Thomas & Renee Blomstrom of Collegeville, Pa, Son In Law Joseph (& Cindy Johnson) Wileczek of Pittman, New Jersey, also survived by her Grandchildren Patricia (& Erich) Geckle, Lori Johring, Alexandria Blomstrom, and Blaise Blomstrom, and Great Grandchildren Dane, Logan and Ryan, a Brother In Law Anthony Martello, and Nieces and Nephews Charles & Kalie Martello and Cindy & Dan Cody.

Along with her husband and parents she was preceded in death by a daughter Donna P. Wileczck, a son Laurence C. Blomstrom, and a sister Patricia Martello.

Shirley and the family would like to express their extreme gratitude to Providence Place Senior Living at the Collegeville Inn and Ascend Hospice Care for their dedication, compassion, and heartfelt kindness during this challenging time.

Her Funeral Mass will be held Friday, January 20, 2023 at 11:00 AM from Epiphany Of Our Lord RC Church, 3050 Walton Road, Plymouth Meeting, PA.

Friends may call on Friday, January 20, 2023 from 10:00 AM to 10:45 AM at the church. 

Interment will take place in Calvary Cemetery, West Conshohocken, PA.  

Memorial contributions may be made in her memory to: St. Jude's Children Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38104.
