Catherine A. (Nicholson) "Cassie" Kerner

September 30, 1941– February 17, 2023

Catherine A. (Nicholson) Kerner, {Cassie}, age 81, of North Coventry, PA, passed away on Friday, February 17, 2023, surrounded by her family, after a long and courageous battle with cancer.

Catherine was born in Philadelphia, PA, to the late James M. & Catherine A. (Galm) Nicholson on September 30, 1941. She grew up in the Manayunk section of Philadelphia and was the fourth child of six children. She is survived by her sister, Carol Johnson, and predeceased in death by her brothers James Nicholson, Joseph Nicholson, Robert Nicholson, and her sister, Thelma Bradley.

In 1962, Cassie met the love of her life Edward L. Kerner Sr. and a first date on New Year’s Eve was the beginning of a loving relationship. They were married on October 6, 1962, and enjoyed 59 years together. Catherine and Edward had five children, fifteen grandchildren, and seventeen great-grandchildren.

Catherine is survived by her daughter Marlene H. (Barry Bosket) Hoffman and son, Edward L. (Kathleen) Kerner, Jr.  Catherine is predeceased in death by her husband Edward L. Kerner, Sr. and her three daughters, Kathleen M. (Barry) Simcox, Joann F. Morrione, and Diane L. Kerner.

Catherine was blessed with fifteen loving grandchildren; Nicole, Amanda, Donald, Kelly, Anthony, Jonathan, Joseph, Nicholas, Victoria, Savanna, Edward, Shayna, Kylie and Hailee.  Catherine is predeceased in death by her grandson, Jesse.

The blessings continued with her seventeen great-grandchildren; Logan, Christian, Bradley, Devin, Michael, Mila, Alexis, Lydia, Jaxon, Ella, James, Maple, Cecelia, Axel, Alice and expected baby Morrione and baby Reed. Catherine is predeceased in death by her great-grandson, Zachary.

Catherine worked for the PA turnpike, was a crossing guard, and spent over 19 years as the Tax Collector in North Coventry, Chester County. She also worked with her husband running several businesses throughout the years. The accomplishment she was most proud of was raising her children and two of her grandchildren.

Catherine was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, daughter, sister, and friend. She was an excellent cook who enjoyed hosting family gatherings with her loved ones, especially holidays and special events. She enjoyed traveling with her husband exploring many cities and states. Catherine had many talents; crafting was one of her favorites as she enjoyed making silk flower arrangements and decorating. She also enjoyed dinner parties with her friends, daily phone calls to her family and friends, and visits from her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. More recently, one of her favorite hobbies was scratch-off tickets, which always made her smile with excitement. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
