Joyce Kathleen Czop

 

Dr. Joyce K. Czop, 77, passed away peacefully Sunday, February 19, 2023 after a four month stay at a nursing home in Langhorne, PA. She was born in Chestnut Hill, PA on April 26, 1945, the daughter of John J. Czop and Frances A. (Maykut) Czop. She lived in Plymouth Meeting until she graduated from Plymouth-Whitemarsh High School with high honors in 1963. She was the first inductee into the PWHS Distinguished Graduates Organization in 1986 for her many achievements in the immunology field. Joyce was an Immunochemist at Brigham and Women’s Hospital as well as an Associate Professor of Medicine at Harvard Medical School in Boston, Massachusetts where she was a pioneer in a male dominated field. She authored and co-authored many published papers based on her research and presented those papers worldwide.

Prior to her many years in Boston, she graduated from Penn State University, she also graduated from the University of Wisconsin with Masters degrees in both Microbiology and Philosophy. Joyce then received her PhD from New York University in Microbiology before venturing off to Boston. While in Boston she received her MBA from Suffolk University along with taking numerous additional courses for her never-ending thirst to learn as much as possible.

In 2006 she retired and moved to Lansdale, PA where she lived. During her retirement, Joyce continued to take numerous college courses and taught safe driving to senior citizens. She loved to travel with groups as well as alone and ventured to over 35 countries worldwide, she loved both her flower and vegetable gardening as well as her cats and dog.

Along with her parents, Joyce was preceded in death by her brother Joseph P. Czop. Survivors include her brothers John M. Czop of Levittown, PA and Thomas S. Czop of Ocean City, MD along with seven nieces/nephews and two grand nieces and one grand nephew.

Her service and interment will be private at her request.
