Obituary of Jane Pishock

Jane Marie Pishock of 113 West Fifth Ave in Conshohocken, PA, a legend and living saint better known to all as simply “Aunt Jane”, passed away on Friday, March 3, 2023. She was 88 years old.

Aunt Jane was born in Conshohocken, PA on July 23, 1934 to the late Stephen and Anna (Rodgers) Pishock. Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by five of her siblings: Stephen (Mary) Pishock, Doris Watkins, Charles (Florence) Pishock, William Pishock, and James (Carol) Pishock. Her beloved sister Marianne Pishock (of Willow Grove, PA) remains, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews, all of which Aunt Jane deeply loved, doted on, and spoiled her entire life. Each one thought they were Aunt Jane’s favorite, and none of them were wrong.

Aunt Jane spent her early years growing up on Elm Street in Conshohocken where she always reflected on her youth with love and joy. Some of her fondest memories were of playing the drums in the high school band, sneaking into the movies, and going to the Shore with her sister Marianne. 

In her later years, Aunt Jane worked at Weyerhaeuser for 44 years, and also worked evenings at Strawbridge and Clothier (Macy’s) for 40 years. Somehow she still always found the time to attend every family event, as well as take her many nieces and nephews to the first showings of every major movie that ever hit the theaters.

During the course of her life (even in her twilight years), Aunt Jane still attended every event with youthful exuberance, coming to every party, christening, wedding, graduation, or other family function. No matter how far away it was, she was always grateful and ecstatic to be invited, and on more than one harrowing occasion, even heavy snowstorms couldn’t keep her away. She eagerly attended all-day field trips for great-nieces and nephews, enjoying every minute, smiling the entire time, and leaving each event with dozens of strangers now referring to her as their Aunt Jane.

Aunt Jane lived the last eight years of her life at Brandywine Living, whose loving staff, administrators, and community truly treated her as family, and Aunt Jane considered them to be the same. Remaining true to form from the previous 80 years of her life, she also won an award for being the “Greatest Escapader” at Brandywine, because just like she had done her entire life, she attended every single event they had and was the life of every party.  Remembered for her hefty whiskey and water cocktails and eating habits that resembled a school cafeteria (macaroni and cheese, chicken nuggets, and spaghetti), she outlived all her health-conscious peers and most of her doctors.

The name “Jane” means “God is gracious”, and for 88 years, Aunt Jane absolutely graced the earth with her presence. She was a fixture on family vacations, and never missed a birthday, holiday, or any other significant event that involved her family or friends. No matter the occasion or circumstances, as soon as Aunt Jane entered the room, the room automatically vibrated with positive energy. Never without a smile, she had a unique gift of making everyone feel like they were the most important person in the world. She truly saw the good in everyone, and never expressed a negative thought about a single person in her entire life. She also somehow never uttered a cuss word (despite being a Pishock), limiting herself to exclaiming “Manischewitz!” instead, a saying some of her nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews often use to voice their own exasperation, showing again the influence Aunt Jane had on the lives of so many.

Aunt Jane loved Elvis, Sinatra, Philadelphia sports, and horror movies. But most of all, Aunt Jane loved her family, showering them with love and generosity every second of every day, especially Christmas. Most children woke up Christmas morning excited to see what was under their tree, but every Pishock niece and nephew woke up that morning counting the hours to when they would head to Aunt Jane’s. Whether it was Star Wars or Ralph Lauren, even if you just subtly mentioned it, Aunt Jane bought every single item ever made and had it wrapped and stacked five feet high in her living room for you on Christmas morning. You thought she was either Mrs. Claus or a millionaire, but Aunt Jane’s gifts she bestowed on others went far beyond what anything Santa Claus or a millionaire could impart. She was generous with gifts, but more than anything, Aunt Jane was generous with her love and time, embodying God’s love and spirit of generosity and giving every single day of her life. Aunt Jane saw the positive in everything and inspired those around her with the same light. She was loved by everyone who met her, because you felt her love to the core, and you knew you were in the presence of someone purely good, someone close to God. She will be fondly remembered and deeply missed by all who were lucky enough to have known her.

The family wishes to express their sincere and everlasting gratitude to Brandywine Living in Upper Providence for giving her the royal treatment she so deserved during the years she resided there, and to Abramson Hospice and Evergreen Care, who sat by her bedside and tended to her needs and comfort every minute in her final days.  

Visitation will be held on Thursday, March 9th 2023 from 10:30 AM to 11:45AM at Moore, Snear & Ruggiero Funeral Home at 300 Fayette St, Conshohocken, PA 19428. A funeral mass will follow immediately thereafter at 12:00PM and will be held across the street from Moore, Snear & Ruggiero Funeral Home at St. Matthews Roman Catholic Church, 219 Fayette St, Conshohocken, PA 19428. Interment will be held at Calvary Cemetery of West Conshohocken.
