Obituary of Herbert E. McMahon

Herbert E. McMahon

Herb McMahon aka Pop of West Norriton passed away peacefully on April 17th surrounded by family. Herb was born July 11, 1936 in Allegheny County, PA to the late Charles W. McMahon and Flora Frye McMahon. He was the widow of the late Lois Guhl McMahon.

Herb grew up in Western Pennsylvania before coming to Philadelphia to become a licensed funeral director. After 25 years in the funeral business, he joined PCOM where he was responsible for overseeing the gross anatomy lab. For many years, Herb served as a Trustee on the Board of the Lions Eye Bank of Delaware Valley and volunteered in his spare time as an eye enucleator where he was honored with the Sight Seekers Award, the highest recognition given for contributions to sight restoration.

Herb was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather. His greatest joy was spending time with his family and doting on his grandchildren and great grandchild. Kind and generous in nature, Herb will be sadly missed by everyone who was fortunate enough to meet him but especially by his children, grandchildren, and great grandchild.

Herb is survived by his children, Herb Jr. and Jane, his grandchildren Nick, Allie, and Maddie, and great grandchild Grayson. He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, 2 brothers, and 3 sisters.

Relatives and friends are welcome to attend his Celebration of Life on Thursday, April 20th starting at 6 pm at The Blue Bell Inn, 601 Skippack Pike, Blue Bell, Pa 19422.  Per Herb’s wishes, casual attire is requested.

In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be sent to: Lions Eye Bank of Delaware Valley, 401 N. 3rd Street, Suite 305, Philadelphia, PA 19123.

Arrangements by Moore, Snear & Ruggiero Funeral Home, 19 East Germantown Pike, East Norriton, PA, (610) 277-1600.
