Obituary of Mary Louise Skelly
Mary Louise Skelly
Mary Louise (Leichel) Skelly, 86, of Collegeville, PA passed away Wednesday, December 27, 2023.
Mary Lou was born in Hagerstown, Maryland on February 9, 1937, the daughter of the late Paul A. and the late Amelia G. (Schindel) Leichel. Soon after the family moved to Norristown Pa., where she met her husband of 63 years William J Skelly. She graduated from Norristown High School in 1955 and attended Centenary College. Mary Lou and Bill were then married in 1960.
Mary Lou and Bill moved to Plymouth Meeting to raise their family where Mary Lou became a real estate agent. She eventually worked at the local Roxy drug store where she waited on many of her neighbors and friends. People who were fortunate to know her will tell you she was an incredibly social person who loved having friends over for an evening cocktail and was known to have the best Christmas Eve parties that usually lasted well into the morning.
Mary Lou had a keen eye for decorating which usually meant Bill had to rearrange furniture and constantly hang things on the walls. She was an avid fan of all sports having playing basketball and field hockey in high school and college and spent many summers playing tennis at Ply -Mar Swim Club. Mary Lou most enjoyed watching her two boys and later three grandsons play youth and high school sports.
She is survived by husband William Skelly of Collegeville, Pa, son Christopher Skelly (Dawn) of Collegeville, Pa, son Richard Skelly (Michelle) of Flourtown, Pa, sister Charlotte Reynders of Chatham MA, as well her 3 grandchildren Matthew Skelly (Sumner), Kyle Skelly, and Cole Skelly.
Along with her parents, Mary Lou was preceded in death by a sister Amelia Ann Leichel .
Her Memorial Mass will be held Thursday, January 4, 2024 at 11:00 AM at St. Eleanor's RC Church, 647 Locust Street, Collegeville, PA.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, January 4, 2024 from 10:00 AM to 10:45 AM at St. Eleanor's RC Church, 647 Locust Street, Collegeville, PA.
Interment will be in St. Patrick's Cemetery of East Norriton, Pa.
