I first met Alvin through his wife's volunteer work as an official with the YMCA swimming community. From the moment I met Alvin, we felt like lifelong friends. He was an active listener who made you feel important. I knew him in his later years, and his intellect and wit were sharp as a knife. He never ceased being a positive impact and was always showing support for his wife, his family, community, and friends. Alvin memory lives on in me and he will be so missed. My thoughts and prayers go out to his family.

Beth and family, I am so saddened to hear of the passing of Al. What an outstanding man that I will always remember fondly from my days at St. E. I like to think of him up there with Fr. Franey and Fr. Lennon having a philospohical chat followed by a good laugh. Our faith tells us that today he is in Paradise! We will see him again. May God comfort you now and in the days to come. Sending you so many hugs, love and prayers.

As a devout Catholic, a devoted husband, an excellent headmaster, a caring educator, a gentleman, and an energetic volunteer, Dr. Coleman had a marvelous sense of humor he demonstrated on days when he was not feeling well and brought his lunch of raisin bread and canned sardines to the faculty lunch table.
