Obituary of Alvin F. Coleman, Ed.D.

Alvin Francis Coleman, Ed. D., of Limerick, Pennsylvania, passed away on November 5, 2024 due to congestive heart failure. Born on July 14, 1936, in Upper Darby, Pennsylvania, he was the son of Emma and Howard Coleman, since deceased. He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth Mays Coleman, true friend and loving wife. Alvin was also a beloved brother-in-law to Elizabeth’s siblings and spouses: Michael, Diane; Brian, Patty; Cindy; and Jack, Ellen. And, an uncle to their children: Julianne (Graham), Lindsay (Jesse); Tyler (Jane), Austin, Jason; Cameron, Owen; Ian, Kyle; and greats: Asher, Reese; Emily.

Dr. Coleman’s career was interesting, varied and fulfilling. It included military service, a year as 7th grade teacher at the George Fox Middle School, Ann Arundel County, MD; insurance resolution for Senger Adjustors; three years as teacher at William Allen High School, Allentown PA; an intern school administrator at Stroudsburg High School as an IDEA Fellow; Principal at the Annville-Cleona High School, Annville, PA; Director of Curriculum in the Greenville, PA School District; and nineteen years at the Pottsgrove School District as Assistant, then Superintendent. Soon after his appointment to Pottsgrove, he completed his degree requirements for a doctorate at Lehigh University. After 38 years in education he retired.

After corrective surgery for prostate cancer, he was approached by some community members to become the Headmaster of the Wyndcroft School, Pottstown, PA. After four years there, he went on for several years as a Supervisor of Student Teachers at Immaculata University.

While he was a volunteer at different organizations, he was most grateful for the opportunity he had to spend 25 years as volunteer to serve the nuns of Camilla Hall Nursing Home, at Immaculata.

Those facing death can not help but consider their impact on others, or lack thereof, in their lives and Alvin prayed that he left many with pleasant remembrances.

A viewing is to be held at St. Eleanor’s Church, 647 Locust Street, Collegeville PA on Wednesday, November 13, 2024 from 10:00 AM until 10:45 AM, followed by a funeral mass for the deceased at 11:00 AM. His bodily remains are to be cremated and interment will be private at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in Alvin’s memory can be made to Camilla Hall Nursing Home, 100 Maxis Dr., Malvern, PA 19355.

Funeral arrangements are with Moore, Snear & Ruggiero Funeral Home, 224 W. Main St., Trappe, PA 19426, (610) 489-7900, www.msrfh.com
