Obituary of George W. Garman

George Walton Garman, 92 of Newtown Square, PA died peacefully while at White Horse Village on March 21, 2019.

He was the husband of the late Lois Burrough Garman, son of Philip Garman and Alice Walton Garman, brother of the late Elizabeth Garman Strattan, and the late Helen Garman Koritz.

George was born in New Haven, CT. He served in the Army for World War II Occupation forces in Japan 1946-1948. Spending most of his life in CT, he grew up in Hamden, lived in Burlington, Avon and Manchester before moving to White Horse Village in Newtown Square.

He is survived by his daughter Lynn Garman (Karl Kolesnikoff), Claire (Tom) Minahan, and Jean (Brian) Campbell, and eight grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

He graduated from the University of Connecticut where he majored in Agriculture and was a member of Kappa Sigma fraternity. George grew to be an avid fan of UCONN women’s basketball. He worked in a number of local manufacturing companies in Production Control, and for the State of Connecticut in the Departments of Disaster Management and Mental Health until he retired. George enjoyed gardening, wood working and turning, sailing his sunfish, and rehabbing their historic home in Manchester. For many years he and Lois enjoyed square dancing and playing bridge. He and Lois enjoyed traveling throughout the US in their camper and attended many Elder Hostels in the US and around the world.  Later, George spent his summers on Cape Cod in Brewster, MA. He was a dog lover, owning a number of dogs over his lifetime. In recent years many remember his loyal dog, Jake who accompanied him everywhere. Family was important to George. He loved his three girls and made sure every year of their childhood included a family vacation.

The family will hold a memorial service on June 29, 2019, 2:00 PM at the Unitarian Univeralist Society: East, 153 Vernon Street West, Manchester, CT  06040.
