Richard Mattia

Obituary of Richard Mattia

Richard (Dick) Mattia, age 91, of Aston, PA passed away on Friday, July 21, 2023.

He will always be remembered for the love he had for his family, especially his children, his joy in baseball as a youth coach and lifelong fan, his care for his vegetable garden, and always welcoming family and friends to meals and gatherings at home.

He was born in Philadelphia, PA on January 20, 1932, the son of the late Virginio and Giulia (Megaro) Mattia.

Dick has been living in Aston for 25 years, formerly of the Overbrook section of Philadelphia, where he was a Charter Member of the Overbrook Italian Club and enjoyed the closeness of the club community and sharing meals there with family and friends.  He was a member of St. John Fisher RC Church in Boothwyn.  Prior to his retirement, he worked as Manager of Building Services and Special Events for the City of Philadelphia, a job which he always considered as a blessing for its work environment and opportunity.

He honorably served in the U.S. Army stationed in Germany during the Korean War.  He was ever thankful for his station and held a place in his heart for his fellow soldiers from boot camp who were stationed in Korea, many of whom didn’t return home.

He is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Norma Mattia (nee Maggetti); two sons Richard M. Mattia (Maureen Gartland) and David (Kathy) Mattia; daughter, Virginia (Matt) Manzi; sister, Gilda Everts; sister in-law, Lucy Mattia; and five grandchildren Leanne, Julia, Alexis, Matthew and Gianna.

Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by five brothers, Vincent, Michael, Edward, V. Thomas and Mario; sister, Rosemary Mattia DeFalco; and grandson, Robert Mattia.

Services and interment will be private.

Arrangements by Moore, Snear & Ruggiero Funeral Home , 300 Fayette Street, Conshohocken, PA, (610) 828-0330
